Hi,
I broke my 5th metatarsal on Christmas Eve and was put into a back slab plaster until 28th December when this was replaced with a full half leg cast. I have been following instructions to the letter, putting no weight on the leg and keeping it elevated whenever possible. A second visit to the fracture clinic on 2nd January led to the consultant telling me to keep off it for a couple more days and then begin to put a little weight on the foot using crutches. I started this on 5th January and it was fine to begin with. However by Sunday I was having tremendous pain in my calf ( the plastered one). It was so bad that I suspected DVT and called the hospital who asked me in for a blood test to check. This was negative. However the pain is still present. When I get up in the morning it's fine but by the time I've done a few steps I'm in agony again. Could it be that the pressure on my heel is causing the plaster to shift and constrict the wider part of my calf? If so, can anything be done? I'm due to get the plaster off on 16th January so it's not too desperate but I could do with out the pain! I'm still keeping the leg raised for most of the day and only walking to the toilet and a few steps to the car - not very often though
Please Help.
Thanks,
